The escalating amount of sex and violence in comic books eventually led to complaints, particularly by psychologist Fredric Wertham who held a symposium in 1948 on the “Psychopathology of Comic Books.” He also wrote a book, Seduction of the Innocent, which correlated a connection between “juvenile delinquency and comic book reading” (Lavin, 1998). I think the beginning is strong, but the ending is something of a chore. There are many literary classics that have been retold within the pages of graphic novels. Everyone felt that they would use the library even if it didn’t have graphics, though many indicated that they felt that their would continue to come to the library, though perhaps with less of a community investment in it.
